Every mountain levelled

by Andrew Cartwright

I had a dream I was walking in the desert. Sand dunes of varying sizes punctuated the landscape. In the distance loomed a dark mountain. And as I walked, a gentle breeze began blowing – it eroded the top layer of sand to reveal a tar road just beneath the surface, running dead straight through the desert. It was there all along, but had been hidden from view. I wondered what it was and the answer was given immediately, “This is the Highway of Holiness”. I continued walking until I reached the dark mountain. I tried to climb it, but could not even take more than two steps as it was too steep and I did not have the strength for it. Just then, the gently breeze began blowing again. The mountain and all the dunes started shrinking until the entire landscape became completely level (See Zechariah 4:6-7; Isaiah 35:8; Isaiah 40:3-4; Isaiah 49:11).

What can we learn from this dream? The first move of the Spirit brought a revelation – that God is working holiness and character, and that, as a born-again believer, you’re on the right track, even when it seems everything is dry and lifeless all around. We need to adopt the right attitude and response to tests we encounter in life. The Lord will refine us through it all.

The next move brought an intervention – one gentle breeze of the Holy Spirit’s presence and obstacles that seemed impossible to remove – were levelled!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you that by YOUR Spirit and power, I am walking on level ground! Every obstacle before me is levelled! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
