Inaccessible to the Enemy

by Lesley Cartwright

“Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.”(Psalm 91:8 AMP)

The Bible forewarns that in the last days, trouble will increase – we’ll hear of wars and rumours of wars, yet Jesus said we should “not be alarmed” (Mark 13:7). But how will we experience true protection and peace when all around us is becoming increasingly unstable?

Bombs could not harm her
I heard of a woman who lived in London at the height of the bombing  raids during World War 2.  While everyone was hiding in the bomb shelters, she was at home asleep in her bed. Bombs were levelling buildings all around her, but she remained unharmed. When the war was over, people asked her why she hadn’t joined them in the shelters. She replied that she believed God’s word in Psalm 121:4 that says God watches over His people and He neither slumbers nor sleeps! The woman had made up her mind that if God was watching over her, she could sleep safely. She wasstrong in faith, and knew that God was faithful to protect and keep her.

Check your Word Gauge
God promises protection, but it’s not automatic – we have to stay within the confines of His Word. If we want to mature in our faith, we will need to get God’s Word down in our hearts in abundance and let it overflow out of our mouths. The things we say expose what we really believe. We should be speaking to our circumstances, and not about them! Change will only happen when we speak in faith, not fear. So if fear is coming out of our mouths, let’s check the level in our “Word gauge”.

O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him….But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.” (Psalm 3:1-3 NIV)

A lot of the things that we put our trust in have never stood the test of time. But when we have faith in God, and put our trust fully in Him, He will be a shield around us. And just like King David in Psalm 3, God will be a shield around you. You can confidently hold your head high, because you’ll be covered with God’s glory. You’ll be hidden in the secret place of the Most High, inaccessible to the enemy.
