Love – the Key to God’s Power

by Andrew Cartwright

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God“. -Ephesians 3:19 NLT

As I ponder the possibility of ordinary believers performing the “greater works” Jesus spoke of (see John 14:11-14 Message Bible), I’m reminded of the often-quoted scripture in Ephesians 3:20 that says, “God is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think”. God can do great things through us. But how do we receive God’s power into us in the first place? The preceding verse (v 19) has the answer..

… Experiencing Jesus’ love.

Being filled with God’s love is the key to God’s power. Imagine you’re standing before Jesus, when suddenly he wraps His arms around You in a loving embrace. The next thing you know, it’s like oil is being poured over you and it soaks into your heart till it overflows – an experience that is “too great to understand (with your mind)”. At least, this is what I felt when it happened to me. But you’ve got to experience it for yourself. Romans 5:5 says God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love. When we’re filled with God, who IS love, all fear is cast out (1 John 4:18) and we are made complete and filled with life and power! Let’s pray together to receive God’s love filling us right now…

Prayer: Father God, I come to You now in Jesus’ name. My deepest desire is to experience the love of Christ flooding my entire being, making me complete with all the fullness of Your life and power. Thank you for filling me with Your love! Thank you for your mighty power in me accomplishing infinitely more than I could ask or think. Let all the glory and praise be given to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
